'Yeon', About Wonders of Life

PLEIADES presents a small collection consists of soft flat shoes and hand-tied knots, talking about the wonders of life.

Square-toe ballerina shoes are made with the softest sheepskin inside and outside, completed with ‘ginger’ mae-deup (Korean traditional knot) hand-tied by the designer.
Petal-like slingback pumps and oxford shoes are made - to be gentle to your feet.
The wedge heels of the sandals are patch-worked with pieces of embroidered silk fabric, while the minimal straps are jewelled with mae-deups (Korean traiditional hand-tied knots), called ‘dorae’ and ‘yeon-bong’ (lotus flower).

‘Yeon’ means ‘lotus flower’ in Korean, and in a Chinese character.
You might associate the image with the Buddhism, but the designer’s approach was more about the small miracles that we encounter each day, the wonders of being.

A good portion of the history of Korean art is rooted in Buddhism. During Go-ryeo era (918-1392), Buddhist art flourished to reach its peak when it comes to technique and the level of completion.
In Go-ryeo wall paintings and architecture, the entire surface is full of curved lines and forms, indicating the core energy of birth and life - that transforms into everything in this world.

The collection is an invitation for you to have a moment to look around, find the beauty that is always surrounding us and celebrate it.
To indulge yourself to the delightful breeze in summer, to gaze at every living thing and realise how blessed we are.
