A Big, Big Journey with TASHA

It was my 6th trip to New York.

Every time I was headed to New York, I was about to start an adventure.
I was there to assist a New York Fashion Week show, to pick-up my handmade pieces that are lent to a superstar’s stylist team, and to live and work in the city as a full-time intern at an accessories design team.

I loved the energy that New York is giving me, the mysterious feeling that anything will work out.
Any dream will come true. The extra motivation that almost work as a magic charm.

Kyu and I have been dreaming of going to New York for months.
And one day, Kyu finally booked the tickets to New York City.

So here we go, our latest adventure in New York.

It was supposed to rain almost everyday while we are in New York.
However I did not worry too much, since I knew that the rain in New York is never like the rain in Korea.
When we say ‘rain’ in Seoul, we refer to the rainstorm mercilessly pouring all day long.
Whereas in New York, it is rather a gentle shower that comes and goes then vanishes.
Thankfully, we had enough sunshine while we were there and just the right amount of the cloud. Only a little bit of rain.

At Guggenheim, Rashid Johnson’s solo show is going on.

Walking along the spiral, we could immerse ourselves in the world of Rashid Johnson, his identity, vision and obsessions.

We also saw paintings by Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso and Vasily Kandinsky.
The spiral walk is never tiring, but we had to save energy for our next destination.

At Metropolitan Museum of Art, they have one of my favourite paintings : Mäda Primavesi.
Since I was a little girl, about the same age as the one in the picture, I always admired this piece.
The colours, her style, the composition, her eyes, her posture, the background, I love everything about it.

Ever since we began to plan our trip, the first thing I wanted to do was to visit Printemps New York.

It was such a beautiful space that is very well curated.
And I was glad that I did not miss out on the display of works by Christian Pellizzari :)

On the same day, Kyu took me to the church he used to go to every Sunday.
The service was nice, the weather was wonderful, and we saw a lot of flowers along the way.

While we are on travel, Kyu always has something that he wants to eat.
Which is great, because I never have anything that I want to eat.
When I travel alone, I never think of what to eat, and I just get an apple for lunch.
Thanks to Kyu, this trip was full of tastefulness. First it was a pizza in SoHo (the full pie he reserved three hours in advance by queuing up), breakfast every morning with bread & banana pudding, and the Thai fish full of lime favour. We are the best fit.

Sunday was also supposed to be a ‘meet up with a friend’ day, I met my friend Cindy and Kyu went to meet his friend from college, Ryan.
Every time we meet, we are surprised by the fact that we haven’t seen each other for 2-4 years.
It always feels like I met her last week.
And every time I think of New York, I think of my friends.
How grateful I am, to have somebody to meet whenever I am in New York! And they are such dear friends.

Here I am, with TASHA !

Another thing I love about New York is there always is a space full of the best furniture and objects.
They had two different floors, one is dedicated to Italian masters from 20th century, and fro the other floor we could see the innovative works of Aki+Arnaud Cooren.

I especially liked the works of Giacomo Ravagli, he is extremely skilled with marble, stone and metalwork.
The ‘Ishigaki lamps’ by Aki+Arnaud Cooren were made of natural bamboo stems and linen shades.
Since the lamps are made based on natural materials, every single one of them had a different look. It gave me much pleasure observing each one of them - how they are made and connected, the beauty and colours of each material, the dimensions, angles and so on.
