SILENCE AND CHAOS
It all began with an idea I read from the musician John Cage’s book, ‘Silence’.
The first chapters were about his contemplations over what contemporary music is and where it should be headed to.
And when he was talking about the term, ‘Experimental Music’, he said,
“There is no such thing as an empty space or empty time, there is always something to see, something to hear. In fact, try as we may to make a silence, we cannot.”
It made me think about the ‘void’ state in time, visual objects & landscapes, and sound.
How things cannot ever be absolutely empty or silent.
So I imagined this creature who is living in an infinite space filled with ultrasounds only, so we cannot actually hear anything. There are few fantastic creatures living in this world - such as coral trees, shadow birds and rainbow snakes.
While trying to complete Hyunmu’s universe, I collected few elements to complete his world.

- A spacecraft called Hayabusa2 is landed among Australian outback, with a container filled with debris collected from an asteroid, Ryugu.
- Ancient maps about stars, and an imaginary world.
- Cracked quince tree in a garden.
- Other forms of turtles, dragons, etc. from Korean traditional architecture and craft.
- Metalsmith and fire.
- Modern furniture design, mostly from England and sometimes Austria.
Strange landscapes.
After the visual journey, product development has started.
The real-world version of the stories above.
For this collection, I wanted to focus on the beauty of materials, while looking into the craft of ‘madeup (knots)’ more deeply.
If I should pick one of the shoes as the leader of the whole collection, I would say ALINA.
ALINA is made with butter-soft sheepskin, perfectly balanced with the sculptural heels and the big platforms.
You are supposed to wrap the knot strings around your ankles, and tie them at the front.
The shoe laces come all the way up to become knot strings, bejewelled with a combination of hand-tied craft.
The designer herself ties them all for you upon every order you place.
SILVA : Ankle boots with sophisticated ‘madeup’ straps, dropped along your feet.
If ALINA is a classy interpretation of the ‘Silence and Chaos’, SILVA is going to be a rather ‘effortless-cool’ choice.
There is no need to tie anything, simply wear them with the metallic zippers at the back.
Soft cow leather lining, Italian welt details and the black rubber soles - SILVA is carefully made with hand-picked materials and attention to details.
CHARLOTTE and CINDY are our first knee-high boots we’ve ever made.
We put a lot of effort to make them on point, with the right materials, the perfect fit and unique details.
CHARLOTTE is made with a single layer of soft leather to create natural creases.
A harmony of contrasting shapes - the pointy toes and the square outsoles, is another hidden charm of CHARLOTTE.
CINDY has a rather sturdy look, almost resembling army boots aesthetically.
With our signature velvet as side trimmings, we added a little bit of shine as a texture variation.
The body is made of oil pull-up cow hides, and the square toe shape is exaggerated with the oversized outsoles.
Now available in 6cm heels, too.
‘Silence and Chaos’ collection is going to be a new beginning for our Autumn-Winter collections, with a new series of boots and loafers - to be continued in the upcoming year.
