In Rome

The day after our wedding, early in the morning, we went to the airport.

Our plan was to go to Rome to spend a couple of days, then to Ravello via Napoli airport.
And then finally to London, to spend the rest of our honeymoon.

I lived in Milan for a year, but it was my first time to visit Southern Italy, apart from a short trip to Sicily.

Here is a photo journal from the city of the angels - Rome.

Morning in Rome

Roman Street View

We walked to Colosseum, which was about 20 mins away from our hotel.

The exotic trees, old buildings and the authentic vibe - I enjoyed the short walk to our destination.

We managed to grab a coffee from a local coffee bar, before entering Colosseum.

Colosseum

When you visit a place where you have always been told about, you have your own expectations, your own version of the place in your mind. Which in my case, without an exception, turns out to be far less than what it really is.
I could only hope that I visited earlier, the whole site was bearing its history in every piece of soil.

The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, it was very interesting to hear about the propaganda, huge parties that lasted for months, underground dungeons, exotic animal shows and the gladiators.

Pantheon

Then we headed to Pantheon.
My husband said that it is all about the beautiful sunlight coming through the ceiling. Then moment we entered the space, I could understand what he meant.

It looked like a huge tomb containing numerous stories about saints, angels, Mary and Jesus.
Only by standing in the middle of all the artworks and words, the whole experience felt like a prayer.

I wish I knew more about Pantheon and all of its statues, the history and its purpose.

Before Sunrise

On our last day in Rome, we woke up early in the morning to leave the hotel room at 6 o'clock.
We wanted to look inside St. Peter's Cathedral, which we could not enter the day before.
When my husband visited the cathedral last time, during his college days, he said he could go in by getting there early in the morning.

We were standing in the queue for about a couple hours.
I had a very bad cold, it was raining softly and I could barely stand up. By the time we got there, we could already see a huge crowd waiting for the gate to open.

Later we found out that it was the Pope's 'General Audience' day, so we could not enter the cathedral until noon. That’s why people from all over Europe were gathering, singing songs, forming huge lines all the way to the piazza and the streets. We could almost see the Pope from one of the front rows, but we had our train booked to Salerno so we left.

Instead, we walked down the streets of Rome, had a cup of coffee, and passed by the famous Trevi fountain.

Seeing the beautiful city before sunrise was enough for me.

To Ravello

This time, Rome was just a place to stop by, since we had a direct flight from Seoul to Rome.
Only to find out it was too short to explore the city in a couple days.

An American couple that we met in front of Pantheon said they were staying for three weeks.
Now I think even that could be not enough.

Farewell to Rome, until next time.

We headed to Ravello through Napoli and Salerno.
